Here are some of the snip-its of the hands-on activities we did throughout the weeks!
Take a glance at some of the activities we have already done with the kids:
Arts and Crafts
Yarn Turtle:
One of our very first activities: the yarn turtle! With just 3 popsicle sticks, yarn, and some color, this craft produced smiles from the kids as they played with a new "pet."
Dream Catcher:
Using some yarn, a paper plate, and some leaves, the kids made a fun, yet useful craft to scare away unwanted nightmares. During their snack break, the kids spent time outdoors, collecting different types of leaves for the craft.
Fortune Teller:
Although a challenging skill, the children were able to master one of many origami techniques to make a fun toy to play with friends and family.
Cardboard Spinner:
This activity had the kids creating their own spinner, encouraging them to use colorful and mesmerizing designs to achieve a hypnotic experience!
STEM (Engineering Activities)
Spaghetti Tower:
With only 20 sticks of pasta, tape, and yarn, campers were challenged to build a tower that would be able to support a marshmallow. The kids thought outside the box and experimented with different ideas to achieve success!
Catapult:
With a list of acceptable materials and a set amount of time, the kids were able to build their own catapult contraption, exercising their creativity as they designed and implemented their own project.
Science Experiments
Walking Colors:
In this cool experiment, the kids learned about capillary action while mimicking this effect on their own by using food dye, some paper towels, and a few cups filled with water to create a "walking colors" effect.
Play-dough Brain:
In this activity, the kids used designs and colors to create their own play-dough brain, following along as they learned about the organ and how each part serves a different function that control our daily lives.
Lava Lamp:
Not only did the kids get to create their own homemade lava lamp, they learned the science behind density and chemical reactions!
Cooking
Mac and Cheese:
One of the many cooking activities we have done, this delicious, microwavable meal was easy for the kids to follow along and make themselves!
Microwavable Mug Cake:
This sugary snack was easy to make and gave the kids an extra boost of energy for the rest of the day!
Chocolate Covered Fruits
These chocolate covered treats tasted amazing and allowed the campers to dip anything they wanted into melted chocolate, from raspberries and strawberries to rice cakes! Dipping fruits in chocolate counts as a healthy snack, right?
